Sun's lead in the non-x86/Unix server market in CY 2005 in India was a commanding 55.6% in unit shipment market share terms, which is more than double its closest competitor. Sun holds the joint leadership position in the non-x86/Unix server market in factory revenue market share terms for the full year 2005.

The non-x86/Unix server market consists of 64-bit EPIC and RISC architecture servers running a flavor of Unix.

"Sun has held our dominance in the India non-x86/Unix server market for 6 years now. This clearly shows that Sun's systems continue to be favored by mission critical sectors such as telecommunications, Financial Services, service providers and Manufacturing enterprises - enterprises with needs for managing unpredictable user loads, in fast-changing networked environments,” said Bhaskar Pramanik, managing director, India, Sun Microsystems.

"Our leadership position is the result of Sun's constant pursuit of technological excellence and innovations. Many of our customers are taking up the new Solaris servers we've introduced, and are using them as engines to run Solaris and Java based applications. We appreciate their confidence in Sun and thank them for their continued support," he added.
