BANGALORE: Sun Microsystems will set up a Sun campus
incubator program at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. The company
has signed an agreement to this effect with IIM, Bangalore and Global Internet
Venture
According to a release, IIMB has joined a select list of
premier institutes around the world, which are a part of this program. The Sun
Incubator Program intends to help realize the entrepreneurship potential in
Business Schools. The management institutes being the breeding grounds for
companies that will lead the e-economy revolution in the coming years, the
release added.
This program helps students implement their business plan and
develop Web-based prototypes for their solution. A total of five projects from
students of IIMB will be selected for the program. These projects will be
incubated using Sun's technology and will be guided by a Sun team. Capital
support will come from Global Investment Ventures, said the release.
The Sun Campus Incubator Program consists of Sun Ray 100
enterprise appliances and a fully operational campus data center. The systems
are loaded with software, including the Sun Developer Essentials Software
Enterprise Edition, a complete set of cross-platform enterprise tools including
Netscape, iPlanet, the Solaris Operating Environment, and StarOffice 5.2, a
cross-platform office productivity suite.
