Information technology, the fast emerging driving force behind India's future

economic growth, will occupy center stage at the summit. Indian corporate

leaders will discuss how its economic concerns can be met by harnessing its IT

talent and skills, which in recent times have won immense recognition worldwide.

The forum would also discuss long-awaited initiatives like hastening the

liberalization process and the need for enhanced bandwidth and telecom

infrastructure that would need to be taken to make India a true "Global IT

Superpower".

Commenting on Sun's participation at the summit Sun Microsystems vice

president, Asia Pacific, Jay Puri said, "The World Economic Forum’s India

Economic Summit is an ideal venue for a global discussion on the promises and

challenges that lie ahead of India’s economy and the role that technology will

play in shaping the future of India. India has acquired a definitive leadership

in information technology and coupled with the Internet, these factors have

become the driving forces behind the Indian economy."

Sun Microsystems India managing director Bhaskar Pramanik will be looking at

the implications of "putting the clicks in the bricks" — how the

traditional brick and mortar industries have the potential to integrate new

technologies and become globally competitive.
