Sun, NIIT launch Solaris training program

BANGALORE: Sun Microsystems India Private Limited today announced a new collaboration with NIIT Limited to offer training programs on Solaris operating system.

To initiate the program, Sun Microsystems plans to set up two specialized training centers in Delhi and Mumbai besides 50 centers more centers in other parts of the country.

Announcing the new program at a press conference here today, Bhaskar Gangavadhi, chief learning officer of Sun said that students and professionals would benefit from the program.

``We believe that through this partnership we will be able to meet the growing demand for the need of professionals,’’ said Vijay K Thadani, chief executive officer, NIIT Limited.

The program enables modules on Solaris operating system to be integrated into NIIT’s curriculum. It is an extension to the partnership that both the companies started in May last year on the Sun Java platform.

The partnership has seen over 15,000 enrollments from more than 200 centers, said Gangavadhi.

NIIT would also provide training to Sun’s partners besides students and working professionals.

``We hope that this rocket of partnership will boost the relationship to the next level,’’ said G Raghuveer adding that the new program would continue to increase as the demand grows.

Sun and NIIT are also aiming to expand their partnership of offer Java and Solaris technology programs in China and other emerging markets.

Speaking about the wide adoption of its open source technologies, Anil Vallury, director, systems engineering, Sun Microsystems said that the company has witnessed 7 million downloads from the Sun website apart from the other releases made by the company. "We see a huge momentum. 70 per cent of them are used on non-Sun hardware,’’ noted Vallury.
