Sun Microsystems to host 'tech fest' in Bangalore

BANGALORE, INDIA: Sun Microsystems, a provider IT services, today announced the details for its technology fest targeted at the large and vibrant student community and college faculty in the city.

Titled “Technology Open house '09- Engineering Innovation”, the day long fest would be held at PES Institute of Technology & Science, Bangalore, said a press release.

The event which would kick off on Saturday April 25 at 10 am with a keynote address by Anil Valluri – managing director and vice president , Sun Microsystems India would be attended by over 1000 students and faculty members from engineering colleges located in and around the city, it added.

Technology Open House ’09 would feature technical talks on a wide range of topics including Sun hardware, Open Solaris, Open Storage, MySQL and more by experts from Sun Microsystems, technology demonstrations of Sun’s latest products and solutions at the numerous kiosks which would be set up exclusively for this event, and a panel discussion on "Entrepreneurship and You" attended by prominent members from the academic community and industry.

The event would also focus upon Sun Streaming System, an IPTV platform that helps deliver quick-to-market, personalized video services and its use in e-learning that would be targeted at the administrators of the colleges, the release added.

Nageshwar Rao, site lead, India Engineering Centre, Sun Microsystems said, “Sun has always shared a strong association with the education sector- our roots are in education (SUN stands for Standford University Network). The student community constitutes the workforce of the future and hence it is imperative that they are equipped with the right tools and technologies that will help them develop into successful workers and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”

He added that this forum embodies Sun's ongoing commitment to developing open source tools and inclusive communities that foster communication and collaboration in the global education arena.
