BANGALORE: Sun Microsystems has announced that it has won a contract from Karnataka Bank towards technology upgradation of its data center. The Sun Fire range of Mid-frame servers with the 1050 MHz Ultrasparc III processors would power Karnataka Bank's core banking implementation based on Infy's Finacle Enterprise Banking platform. The bank has chosen Wipro as the systems integration partner.

Karnataka Bank has selected Sun Microsystems as its technology partner and this contract reinforces the relationship. The bank, running on the previous generation of Sun Enterprise range of servers, recently launched its 130 networked branch under the centralized solution. These servers are now expected to cater to the requirements of business continuity.

Ananthakrishna, Chairman and CEO, Karnataka Bank said, "Our association with Sun Microsystems started two years ago when we chose them as a technology partner along with Infosys and Wipro as we moved towards technology upgradation. I strongly believe that the new range of enterprise servers and processors supplied by Sun will cater to our needs and our association will prove that we continue to be front runners among the old generation banks in the country as far as technology upgradation is concerned."
