HYDERABAD, INDIA: Sun Microsystems, a provider in IT services, today announced that the 8th edition of Sun Tech Days, annual developer conference by Sun kicked off to a great start at the Hyderabad International Convention Center, supported by sessions in Pune and Chennai.
Revolving around the theme of 'Empowering You', Sun's premier global developer conference this year focuses on fostering 'Innovation, Collaboration, and Integration', among the vibrant developer population in India, said a press release. Supported by 60 sessions, Sun Tech Days 2009 focuses heavily on technologies around social computing, cloud computing, OpenSolaris and Java.
"The developer community in India has a lot of opportunities and potential to innovate and shape tomorrow's success stories in the technology industry. As part of its global developer programs, Sun India supports and engages with over half of the country's developer population (7,80,000 developers) through on-ground programs and activities such as Sun Tech Days and other developer events held annually." said Anil Valluri, vice president and managing director- India GEM, Sun Microsystems.
The highlight of this year's event will revolve around interesting demos and sessions on two of the hottest technologies in the world today- Zembly (used to build social networking applications) and Java FX (to build Rich Internet Applications), said the release.
The three-day event began with a keynote address delivered by James Gosling, Sun Vice President and Sun fellow, titled 'Java - Where We're Heading'.
In his keynote presentation, Gosling reiterated the ubiquitousness of Java and the numerous ways this technology touches daily life.
His presentation also highlighted the newly released JavaFX Mobile, a new platform that delivers rich content and services to mobile phones and devices, through several interesting demonstrations, said the release.
Delivering the keynote address, James Gosling, vice president and Sun fellow said, "Breaking down the technological, social, and economic barriers that have conspired to constrain innovation and access is a challenge that Sun readily embraces."
"When we talk about enabling participation on the network, we are not just talking about helping people get online. We are talking about creating the technologies that allow people to access the tools they need so they can participate. One of the most powerful examples of how sharing and community building can change the world is found in Java technology and its developer community," he added.
