NEW DELHI, 23 August : Summit Data Products, a distributor
of IT products and solutions to the print and publishing industry, has been appointed
national distributor for Kodak digital cameras and CD-Writers by Kodak India Ltd.
Summit has a strong presence in the CAD/CAM, desktop
publishing industry. Its product portfolio includes Apple Macintosh systems, SGI Visual
Workstations, Umax scanners and software products from Quark Inc and Adobe Systems.
"Summit's expertise in digital imaging is well established in India. The association
with Kodak will help bring a digital imaging revolution in the country," said, Summit
Data Products Managing Director Rakesh Kapoor , at the launch. "The technology and
prices have reached a point where it has become viable for the mass market. The
application of these products in the professional user segments is enormous," he
added.
Worldwide, sales of digital cameras are beginning to pick
up. Of the total photography market worth $370 billion, digital camera sales account for
$75 billion. The figure is expected to increase to $150 billion in the coming year.
"We have seen an increasing trend of small businesses adopting this technology
quickly. And from business use, these products extend out to personal use," said
Eastman Kodak Company Digital and Applied Imaging Division for ASEAN and India Region
General Manager Jeffry Ho.
In India, Mr. Kapoor believes that the digital camera
market is slated to boom, like the scanner market which has been experiencing growth rates
in excess of 100 percent. Four digital camera models from Kodak's Megapixel range will be
available in India. Prices begin at Rs 27,000 for the DC200 plus and go up to Rs 75,000
for DC265 Zoom. The Kodak CD-Writer is priced at Rs 14,400.
