BANGALORE: A good response from various schools last year set the stage for

the Student Internet World this year. It was held along with the BangaloreIT.COM

at the Kanteerva Indoor Stadium. Organized by the Karnataka government and STPI

from November 1-5, the objective of the show was to create computer and Internet

awareness among children who don't have access to computers in schools.

With support from the Karnataka government and STPI, Thai.com provided 4 Mbps
connectivity for the event. NIIT, Aptech, SSI, Edurite and Connoisseur offered

300 computers, while Network Solutions networked the PCs in the huge hall.

Students from class five and above were invited for the event. The kids were

allowed to access the Net free for an hour. On an average, about 400 students

were in each batch. There were about 25,000 students who participated in the

event.

The state government invited 50 per cent (about 15,000 students) of the

students from Bangalore rural (Hoskote, Tumkur, Devanahalli, Annekal and

Chennapatna). Few students belonging to the government schools from the

sub-urban (25 per cent) and the city (25 per cent) were also invited.

The educational site (http://itcom.picopeta.com)

was created specifically for the event. The site was designed and conceptualized

by a team from Simputer.
