Student entrepreneur of the Year awarded during Techunt Grand Finale

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Techunt, a joint initiative of Nurture Talent Academy and Computer Society of India, ended on a high note at the special Grand Finale organized in IIT Bombay on 6th December, 2013.

The event saw presence of over 30 college teams and 20 school teams competing for "Student Entrepreneur of the Year" award and Rs. 1.25 lakhs of cash prizes, judged by an eminent panel of 20+ investors and entrepreneurs during the day.

Amit Grover, CEO of NTA said: "We have been traveling throughout India across the year, conducting training workshops and mentor boot-camps, while identifying, selecting and shortlisting the best ideas from over 5000 participants. Techunt workshops related to mobile and web development were conducted in 55 colleges spread across 25 cities Jammu to Port Blair!"

S. Ramanathan, Hon. Secretary of CSI India, gave away certificates and prizes to winners, and also addressed them with these special words, "CSI has taken this unique initiative to promote technology entrepreneurship, and I wish all of you take your wonderful ideas forward to create exciting new products."

The winning team of Swapnil, Gaurav and Rasik, students from MIT SOT College, Pune, received a cash prize of 1 lakhs Rs and trophy for "Student Entrepreneur of the Year". Their idea, named as Red-Energia, was related to healthcare sector for detecting anaemia, a mobile app targeting pathology labs and patients. Manikandan from NSIT College, Salem received special trophy for "Innovative Idea of the Year". His idea, Slamly, is a book publishing web application, which allows viewing, sharing, reviews and feedback.

Among school students, winner was Akshat Prakash from DPS Ghaziabad, followed by 1st runners up Pranav Bhasin from Amity School Gurgaon and 2nd runners up Shreshth Arora from Bal Bharati School Pitampura Delhi. Akshat's idea, named as HelixSafe, is a wearable computing device which sends heart beat signals during emergency.

Top six colleges out of 55 received special trophies for supporting and encouraging entrepreneurship in their campuses, namely Muthyammal Engineering College Rasipuram, Dronacharya College of Engineering Gurgaon, SVCE College for Women Tirupati, Vimal Jyothi Engineering College Chemperi, Sri Sairam Institute of Technology Chennai and Jeppiaar Engineering College Chennai. Top 7 faculty were also awarded "Mentor of The Year" trophies.

The event received sponsorship support from companies like Meraevents, Panalink, Soulflower, Ixigo and Purplle. CNBC Young Turks was the proud media partner of Techunt Grand Finale.
