Could you give a brief outline of the latest data security solutions from the wallet of VmWare

We have a new product named VMsafe, a solution that leverages the unique capabilities of VMware Infrastructure to enable a rich ecosystem of third-party security solutions for virtualized environments. This virtual security technology provides fine-grained visibility over virtual machine resources, making it possible to monitor every aspect of the execution of the system and stop previously undetectable viruses, rootkits and malware before they can start infecting.

VMsafe enables partners to build security solutions in the form of a virtual machine that can access, correlate and modify data to help control and protect in four key areas namely memory and CPU, networking, process execution and storage.

In memory and CPU area, the solution provides introspection of virtual machine memory pages and CPU states, while in the networking sector it helps in filtering of network packets inside hypervisors within the security virtual machine itself.

In the process execution sector, VMsafe provides an in-guest, in-process APIs that enable complete monitoring and control of process execution. VMsafe guests the virtual machine disk files that can be mounted, manipulated and modified as they persist on storage devices.

How does VCloud help in management and automation solution for the industry?

VMware vCloud brings three unique characteristics to cloud computing, designed to serve the needs of businesses that want production level performance and reliability. The three characters are choice, mobility and technology and application support.

VMware has partnered with hundreds of hosting and cloud computing vendors to enable delivery on a common VMware platform. This gives users choice in where they deploy applications and allow easy transitions between providers, as well as on and off premise use.

In the technology aspect, the company has leveraged key technology advancements, like VMware VMotion, VMware Storage VMotion, VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler, and VMware vCenter Server; users know they can move VMs without downtime. This would gives users the assurance that applications can be managed, moved and operate in the cloud as they do onsite.

With almost 1,000 applications created, validated and marketed within our Virtual Appliance Marketplace, users could easily deploy applications to a cloud or on-premise environment. More importantly, the applications that run in your business today would work the same in the cloud, without recoding or building them on a cloud-only platform, saving time and valuable development resources.

What are the latest data centre specific products, and how do they help the companies from an economic as well as security perspective?

Our flagship product, VMware Infrastructure, coupled with VMware's comprehensive roadmap of products provide a virtual data center operating system(OS) for IT environments of all sizes.

The virtual datacenter OS addresses customers’ needs for flexibility, speed, resiliency and efficiency by transforming the datacenter into an “internal cloud”, an elastic, shared, self-managing and self-healing utility that can federate with external clouds of computing capacity freeing IT from the constraints of static hardware-mapped applications.

It guarantees appropriate levels of availability, security and scalability to all applications independent of hardware and location.
