MUMBAI: US-based customer service and tech support BPO company Stream International is planning a major ramp-up of its Indian operations. The company intends to double its headcount from the existing 1,000 people to 2,000 by year end. The additional 1000 people will be accommodated in a second facility in Mumbai.

Stream India CEO Zia Sheikh said, "We have been contemplating this initiative and now that we have almost doubled our client base, it is imperative to ramp-up operations in the country."

Stream India currently has 15 clients of which eight were added last year. The company is also on the lookout for a new facility outside Maharashtra.

Stream India's operations began as a partnership with Tracmail. Only last year, the company formed a JV with Infowavz wherein the latter is involved in running the operations of Stream India. Sources close to the company had mentioned during the announcement of the partnership that the operations might look to become a part of Stream International within a year's time.
