The company, which began its Indian operations late last year, would be distributing its series of storage virtualization products through its Indian distributors, which include CMS computers, Wipro Infotech and HCL. These distributors also provide support for StorageTek products in India.

So far the company has mainly targeted the finance, telecom and manufacturing verticals as well the IT sector in India with its high end products Its main customers include ICICI bank, National Stock Exchange, Punjab National Bank, Bank Of America, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and Bajaj Autos Ltd.

According to Vijay Pradhan, General Manager, StorageTek India, the automated storage management features of their storage virtualization products will lower the overall costs storage management and in turn would prove immensely beneficial for organizations. Pradhan said that the storage market in India had grown tremendously in the recent past.

The company hopes that the new product line will help it leverage this growing opportunity in the country. The first of the series that is likely to be introduced in India is the V2XX storage disk product. Already launched in the US, the V2XX works on a fiber channel storage area network and can be connected to multiple and heterogeneous servers.

To begin with the product would essentially be targeted at software development centers in India. "The V2XX product is being primarily aimed at the software development centers due to its capacity to store multiple copies of data without using additional disk capacity. Software development work involves storage of multiple copies of data STORAGETEK s V2XX s product can easily facilitate that," said Pradhan.

Other products of the series are also likely to be rolled out in India in the coming six months. At the same time, StorageTek plans to enhance its presence in the country with an increase in technical support staff that complements the product support already provided by its distributors.
