GENEVA, SWITZERLAND: STMicroelectronics (STM) has introduced 1MHz two-wire serial EEPROMs in 256-Kbit, 512-Kbit and 1-Mbit densities, compatible with I2C Fast-Mode-Plus allowing data rates up to 2.5-times faster than the I2C Fast-mode.
Operating at 1MHz, the M24M01-HR is able to complete a 1-Mbit data transaction in 1 second; the 256-Kbit M24256-BHR in a quarter of a second; and the 512-Kbit M24512-HR in half a second.
The two-wire serial EEPROM supports multiple access modes, including byte-write mode as well as 64, 128 and 256-byte page-write modes, random and sequential read modes, automatic address incrementing. As well as easing design in, these modes help engineers optimize system performance and power consumption. A write-control input is provided, while three chip-enable pins allow up to eight devices on a single bus. Also aiding design-in for low-voltage or standard-voltage systems, all three densities are available in variants operating from 1.8V to 5.5V or 2.5V to 5.5V.
ST's advanced fabrication process has enabled the speed advantages of 1MHz operation at a competitive cost, and in a choice of three miniature surface-mount package styles including TSSOP8 and a 3.8mm-width (150 mils) SO-8. Low package heights of 1.2mm and 1.75mm respectively, allow use in low-profile consumer products such as digital TVs. All packages use ST's ECOPACK(R) technology, which meets international green packaging codes including the EU Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requirements.
The devices also deliver robust performance in the field, with specified durability of one-million write cycles and more than 40 years
data retention.
Samples of the 256-Kbit, 512-Kbit and 1-Mbit devices are available in the SO-8 packages. Samples in TSSOP packaging are available in 256-Kbit and 512-Kbit densities.
