JAIPUR: Shyam Telelink Ltd. (Rainbow) has launched a new service-fonemail,
for its basic telephone subscribers in Rajasthan. Shyam Telelink Ltd. (STL), a
part of Shyam group, has the license to operate basic telephony services in the
state of Rajasthan.
"Fonemail-a unified messaging platform, attempts to converge the whole
world into the palm of your hand in the shape of a phone," said Shyam Group
chairman cum managing director Rajeev Mehrotra. "Fonemail offers a platform
wherein all the messages can be sent and received by phone", he said.
Elaborating on the launch he said that if you are a subscriber of a telephone
connection provided by STL, you don't need a computer or an Internet connection
to send or receive emails. What is more, one can even send voice mails and even
get the costly software installed by the company to read back your e-mail
messages to you, he added.
But what is more significant in the fonemail service is its ability to
drastically cut cost of fax messages to anywhere on the globe. Shyam Enterprise
president Suneel Vohra, claimed that, this is the first time that such a service
is introduced in the country.
The company introduced four services under the brand name of fonemail
-Phone-to-mail-that allows a customer to send emails, voice mails anywhere in
the world from their phones. The customer just needs to dial a local number and
record the message, the same would be sent as a voice attachment to the
receiver.
Fax to mail- that enables subscribers to send their faxes as email
attachments using local phone. The customer in this case has to dial a local
number from a fax machine and fax their documents as same would be sent to the
receiver as an e-mail attachment. Notification service- that notifies a
subscriber of all incoming emails and Email Reader- wherein the telecom company
system calls the customer and reads out all the new mails in the inbox.
STL, which presently has a subscriber base of 20,000 hopes to cover 15 cities
by the end of this year in the State and it, plans to touch a figure of 35
cities in the State by 2003. The company has so far invested around Rs 400 crore
in the State.
