A MOSFET behaves like a voltage controlled switch or resistor. The lower the on‑state resistance (Rds(on)), the more current flows through the switch and therefore the higher the efficiency of the circuit. The Infineon CoolMOS C7 available from Mouser Electronics boasts an Rds(on) of only 19 mΩ in a TO‑247 package, increasing efficiency and lowering heat.

Switching frequencies greater than 100kHz can be achieved due to lower gate capacitance, making the devices easier to drive. The C7 series offers an unprecedented Figure of Merit (FOM) for this class of Power MOSFET Devices.

The Infineon CoolMOS C7 MOSFET available from Mouser Electronics is optimized for switching power supply topologies such as Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) as used in high‑power - Power Factor Correction (PFC) power supplies, and Two Switch Forward topologies found in high-reliability switching power supplies. In addition, the high 650V breakdown voltage provides a comfortable safety margin for lower-voltage applications.

Target applications are solar converters, server and telecom power supplies, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). The high efficiency of the C7 reduces switching losses by a calculated 8 percent. This is equal to 5W of power saved in a CCM-Mode PFC switching at 1.2KW.
