Who are your consumers? How are you changing the mobility sector?

Our consumers are people who use a 2-wheeler as a primary commute for their day-to-day errands. As this is a characteristic of Tier 2 & tier 3 cities that is where we believe we will find the larger chunk of our customers. Raj’s vision is to be present in the remotest of locations in India.

The mobility sector is changing, and EVs are probably the biggest driver in many years to give the push. One unique thing that EV vehicles have in them is that they are Smart vehicles that provide manufacturers both a challenge and an opportunity, we aim to manage the challenge and maximize the opportunity for that Greta Electric Scooters has a dedicated R&D team that works diligently at it.

What are the struggles and challenges you face?

If you run a business there cannot be one day that does not throw a new googly at you, that is also the fun part of running a business … you learn each day. One of the key challenges as an industry that we face is the high dependency on imports for components. While we drive to produce & source maximum components locally there are still significant numbers that are not available locally. Thus the erratic imports on account of pandemic restrictions have had us tread many a rough water in the past year or so.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

My vision differentiates me from the rest. I am driven by a single vision of making commuting easy and affordable for the largest population possible without adding to the carbon footprint. This was the very vision that had me set up Raj Electromotive at the age of 14 years and later resulted in the set up of Greta Electric Scooters.

To further the vision we work hard at getting state of art features and benefits to consumers at affordable prices while maintaining quality.  Hearing from our customers and understanding the differences in their requirements to help affordability we have taken a step further we let customers decide the battery they need as per their requirement and hence customize both the vehicle & its price to suit their needs and pockets.

What are your expansion plans, partnership, and investment? What changes for Greta?

EV as an industry is exploding especially in the 2-wheeler segment, we are growing too. With growth, expansion is a natural outcome.  We are starting out with increasing our footprint across the country our first step was to set up the outlet at Leh Ladakh giving the highest charging point. By the end of the year, we aim to have 50+ touchpoints across the country. The majority of dealer outlets will have an experiential zone to allow customers to touch & feel the product and learn about EV, their benefits, and how to maintain them. In most cases, the dealer outlets will also support a service center.

The next step is to increase production capacity to that effect we recently opened a manufacturing facility with a capacity of producing 30,000 units annually at Faridabad, Haryana.

Next comes line-up expansion like I mentioned R&D is a way of life at Greta Electric Scooter.

How has your revenue grown with the brand evolving during the pandemic?

The last two years have been a tailspin. The increased focus on EVs from the Govt and consumer end has spiraled the demand. We had actually peaked out on our production capacity when we opened the unit at Faridabad.

Overall EV is an exciting space to be in right now, and we are enjoying the ride.

What has 2021 changed for you? How are things now?

Despite all challenges, 2021 was a year of growth for us. We were able to scale up our business by 3X.

What are your growth priorities for 2022?

Market reach, increased production capacity, preparing business right for scalability and growth.

All this ensures quality products that meet both domestic and international standards, in with our vision to bring the best at the most affordable prices.
