ST intros STM32 L0 series ultra-low-power ARM Cortex-M0+ MCUs

NOIDA, INDIA: STMicroelectronics has announced the STM32 L0 series ultra-low-power ARM Cortex-M0+ microcontrollers.

Vinay Thapliyal, technical marketing manager - India, Microcontroller Division, MMS Group India (GCSA Region), said: "This is a continuation of our low power devices. STM32 L0 has 20 to 100 pins. Phase I will be in 32-64KB Flash, phase II is 64-192KB Flash, and phase 3 is 16-32KB Flash. The STM32 L0 series is ultra-low power, and the DNA is now built with ARM Cortex-M0+.

"We guarantee 1.71V to 3.6V MHz operation. It features USB 2.0 FS certified crysta-lless/BCD (battery charger detection). There is also an ultral-low power ADC. Flash can be locked sector-wise. It features ultra-low power time counter with 16-bit low-power timer."

Targeted applications include industrial -- industrial sensors, door locks, gas/water meters. Healthcare - fitness trackers, blood pressure glucose meters. Consumer - audio accessories, controllers, 3D glasses. RF - sub GHz and 2.4GHz remote sensor meters.

Customers look for the complete platform. When ST launches a family, there is an evolution from low- to high-end. In terms of power consumption, these are positioned at ultra-low-power. Based on the different needs of power management, it allows the customer to choose.

STM32 L0 platform offers the lowest power consumption for the highest temperature range. This capability to control leakage current makes the STM32L0 very useful.

Three key market needs - low cost, extended battery life and low power consumption levels even at higher temperatures are significantly addressed by this product range.

The STM32L0 also benefits from the comprehensive ST32 development ecosystem. These devices are pin-to-pin compatible with STM32L1 and other STM32 families.

Wearable trend is increasing in India. These devices are being worn for an extended period of time with enhanced user experience. Some segments are sports, heart monitors, glasses and goggles, smart watches, activity monitors, etc. ST offers a complete smart system. It has all the ingredients, such as motion MEMS and environmental sensors, ultra-low power MCUs, smart energy management, etc.

ST sees IoT as a key opportunity. IoT is taking wing now due to pervasive wireless connectivity and global smartphone availability.
