"The (international) call centre will help our state to contain the brain drain. The center can employ more than 4,000 people," Sangma said.

Set up in 1999, SS Netcom is the first private Internet Service Provider in Meghalaya and within a year extended its service to Nagaland and Manipur.

In 2005, it launched the first 24-hour call centre in the region. Its clients include Airtel, Aircel, IDEA Cellular and Tata Indicom.

"It is a big hurdle to set up an international call centre in Meghalaya due to its poor air connectivity, but we always hope for the best," said Sangma.
