SQL Server 2000 gets 64-Bit Support

NEW DELHI: Microsoft has recently released a new service pack for SQL Server 2000, called Service Pack 4 that extends 64-Bit support to its popular database software, SQL server 2000. Said an online report.

With this service pack all SQL Server 2000 installations will be able to take advantage of AMD64 chips and Intel's Itanium CPUs.

While the next version of this database software, SQL Server 2005, codenamed Yukon will offer native support for 64-bit processors, Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2000 already supports Itanium chips.

With this enhancement in SQL Server 2000 all existing users of the database software can start taking advantage of 64-bit processors without upgrading to the next version.
