From opening night, when 400 developers lined up for new HTC Hero devices and an Android coding session, Sprint’s ninth annual developer conference, felt new and different.

"It was an awesome conference and really got me started on Android development," said Yadong Liu, founder and CTO, M-Square Apps. "I used the free HTC Hero to develop an app called ‘Best Quotes.’ It is already available on Android Market, and I am planning some more apps to be released in the future."

As the only carrier to allow developers access to network location-based services, Sprint announced today it is expanding its open location platform with the addition of TechnoCom Corporation to give developers more ways to create new location-based services for Sprint customers.

“We are pleased to add TechnoCom to our developer program as a location-based aggregator,” said Len Barlik, vice president of wireless and wireline services for Sprint. “Because developers can work with a variety of specialized service enablers, they can create and launch richer applications that benefit from the speed and utility of the Sprint network.”

Developer Sandbox for CDMA and iDEN

In addition, Sprint is the only carrier to offer the application developer community a free Developer Sandbox, open to all Sprint registered developers, that provides access to an expansive set of Sprint network, handset and product capabilities to use in creating applications.

The sandbox provides an easy-to-use format where developers can take the Sprint services and mashup with other available third-party services to create innovative web pages and applications. The Developer Sandbox simplifies the developers’ ability to leverage Sprint’s powerful network services.
