Spring Lighting Fair brightens Hong Kong business

HONG KONG: Nearly 1,100 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions, a new exhibitor record, are taking part in the sixth edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), which opened and continues through 9 April at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The exhibitor total is up six per cent over 2013, with new exhibitors from Australia, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, Italy, Malaysia and New Zealand. Malaysia is featuring a group pavilion for the first time.

Inspiration avenue

Fair highlights include a new zone, Avenue of Inspiration, showcasing new designers and design start-ups, their creative offerings integrating lighting technology with design excellence.

Other zones include Hall of Aurora, World of LED & Green Lighting, Commercial Lighting, Decorative Lighting, Display World, Lighting Accessories, Parts & Components, Technical & Outdoor Lighting, and World of Chandeliers.

Lighting trends and markets

The Asian Lighting Forum took place Sunday. The morning session spotlights global market trends in lighting, while the focus this afternoon will be on LED technology advancements. A Buyer Forum looking at Eastern European business opportunities is also on this afternoon.

Monday offers Buyer Forums on the Asia Pacific and emerging markets, as well as a seminar on lighting design trends. On 8 April, an Exhibitor Forum spotlights green lighting in the morning, while an afternoon seminar examines testing and certification services for the industry.

Bright lights

The winning pieces of the seventh Hong Kong Lighting Design Competition are on display at Hall 1C Concourse throughout the fair period. "Blossom Blooms" was the theme of this year's design competition.

Small-order showcase

The Small-Order Zone features some 400 showcases, offering about 4,000 products. These are available in minimum orders ranging from five pieces to 1,000, depending on the supplier. The Small-Order Zone is also available online, at www.hktdc.com/so, with instant payment enabled via PayPal and shipping arrangements available for select products.

Buying missions

Lighting fair organiser, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), has arranged for 53 buying missions, counting more than 3,500 international buyers, to visit the fair. These include such major importers and distributors as the United States' Home Depot, the mainland's GE Lighting, Malaysia's ML Lamp & Electrical Supply, Poland's Zuma Line, Russia's Ledru and Palantir, and the United Arab Emirates' Light Vision LLC.
