NEW DELHI, INDIA: Spice Mobiles is planning to launch dual memory card phone next month, which it said is the world's first dual slot of memory card.
“This dual memory card phone will be launched in January. We will be the first company to launch mobile phone with dual slot for memory card. The idea behind this is to give our customers flexibility to have different kind of content, both for their utility and entertainment applications,” said Dilip Modi, managing director, Spice Televentures in an interaction with CIOL.
Spice Mobile is working with MediaTek to improve processing power and also enhance the battery life of the phone.
It had recently launched ‘Spice M-7070’ in the domestic market, which is a dual SIM mobile phone with digital camera.
The new dual memory card phone Spice is launching can be loaded with memory card of all size up to 16 GB.
“We will give our customers all options. They can use 8GB or 16GB memory card, it will all depend on them,” said Modi.
The major concern about this phone will be processing speed and battery life to support browsing of the content, which, Modi promised, is being taken care of by the company.
“We are working very closely with our chipset vendor MediaTek to ensure that the customer gets enough battery life and processing speed to enjoy the content,” said Modi.
On the pricing front, Modi said that the company will not charge very high price for these handsets and will be affordable for the customers.
“We have not yet decided upon the price of the phone but we are not going to charge anything incremental from them. We try to give more out in the existing price of the handsets,” said Modi.
Spice Mobiles will also start production in its plant at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh in this January. At present the company is in the process to set up assembly line and working on tie-up with component manufacturers for its manufacturing facility.
“Till now we were manufacturing mobile phones in Taiwan. Now we are in the process of setting up assembly line and in the course of 2010 we will scale-up our mobile phone production in India,” said Modi.
