BANGALORE: Spice Telecom, one of Karnataka's cellular providers, has announced its tie up with the Department of Posts, Karnataka (DoP) for the distribution of its cards in the state. According to the agreement, the postal offices in and around the state will now stock Spice Prepaid cards and recharge coupons.

"This effort has been brought about by us to expand on our distribution network and bring mobile telephony closer to the interiors of the state where postal setups are the important activity hubs. The cards will be made available in 62 post offices in Bangalore and 15 in Mysore in the first phase," said MD for Spice Telecom, Karnataka circle Sean Dexter.

He added that the next few phases would see the facility being extended to the interior towns including Dharwad, Hubli, Chitradurga, Belgaum and Madikeri.

The DoP will be entitled to a percentage commission of the face value of the cards - five percent of Rs 5,000 and four percent of the other denominations. The initiative will branch out into other branding activities of Spice on post cards, inland letters, mail vans and others.

Replying to a question on how much revenue the company expects to make by this distribution effort, Dexter said, "We have no set targets of revenues at the moment. The revenues will increase based on the distribution grid and the speed of the roll out."

The agreement is a non - exclusive one and the DoP reserves the right to deal with products of Spice competitors as well.
