Spectrum will bundle Alliance directory and security Internet

infrastructure software with Spectrum policy management applications.

Advertisment

The combined solution allows Spectrum to offer fully

integrated directory-enabled networking for routers, switches and other

networking products from Cabletron Systems and third-party vendors. By

leveraging the alliance directory, Spectrum’s policy-based network

management solution helps enable e-commerce transactions and other

mission-critical business operations for companies competing in the Net

Economy.

As part of the agreement, Spectrum will license the

Alliance’s iPlanet Directory Server and iPlanet Certificate Management

System to provide Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) support,

access control, centralized data storage, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)-based

user authentication with Spectrum Policy Aware, a policy management

solution.

Spectrum Policy Aware consists of three modules that

address security, quality of service, and routing policy demands.

Initially, Policy Aware applications will focus on the Cabletron

SmartSwitch Router and other SmartSwitch products. The second phase is

expected to extend support for third party switch, router, and DSL

equipment. Spectrum Policy Aware applications are expected to start

shipping at the end of this year.
