NEW DELHI: Network security provider Sourcefire has announced its plans to
target the enterprise IT and Network infrastructure market in India.
Sourcefire provides intrusion prevention and detection systems (IDS), intrusion
prevention systems (IPS) and Network Behavior Anomaly Detection (NBAD) solutions
to the enterprise IT marketplace.
Sourcefire Inc. international sales vice-president Allen Male said, “This year,
and specifically in 2007, we are going to put a lot of focus on the markets in
India and China. India specifically is interesting because of the phenomenal
growth and increasing maturity of the enterprise IT and network infrastructure.
Most enterprises have had firewalls for a couple of years now and they are
starting to realize the benefits of intranet and network monitoring and
intrusion prevention - precisely the requirement that Sourcefire can best
address.”
Currently, Sourcefire is on track to do about $50million this year. Male said,
“We have been growing at an average rate of about 150 per cent to 200 per cent
year over year since we were founded in 2002. We're one of the fastest growing
companies in the world. About 20 per cent of our revenue is outside of North
America; that's envisioned to grow significantly in the coming two years.”
The company targets the enterprise but doesn't have any specific vertical focus.
Male added, “We have solid customer base in all vertical industries and
government segments around the world. Our 3D approach - Discover, Determine,
Defend — is the first and only comprehensive intelligent network defense system
that unifies intrusion and vulnerability management technologies to provide
customers with the most effective, real-time network security for today's real
world challenges.”
Martin Roesch, the creator of Snort, an open source intrusion prevention and
detection technology, founded Sourcefire in 2001. To date, Sourcefire has raised
almost $54 million. In July 2006, Cross Creek Capital, L.P., a wholly owned
subsidiary of Wasatch Advisors, Inc. joined the Sourcefire investor syndicate.
In May 2006 Sourcefire secured $20 million in Series D funding led by Meritech
Capital Partners, provider of late-stage venture capital to IT companies.
The new capital is expected to provide Sourcefire with both a “bullet-proof”
balance sheet and the resources needed to aggressively pursue new market
opportunities and product innovations.
