Sony unveils three Android based tablet computers

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Foraying into the Android market, Sony today launched three tablets under S and P brand names, but however only one device is up for sales.

The company has introduced Sony S for Rs 29,990 which it says is available in the market. 

The consumers have to wait for other two devices under S and P category, as they will be available in late January 2012. They are though priced at Rs. 33,990 and Rs. 36,990 respectively. 

A late entrant to the Android space, Sony however aims to be on top in the market. The company has also collaborated with local content developers. The new devices are equipped with DLNA technology that allows cross-device connectivity.

Hideyuki Furumi, Deputy President at VAIO and Mobile Business Group, Sony Corporation said that they have optimally designed hardware and software and Sony Tablets will continue to evolve. 

The new tablets will boosts to have various applications such as; Videochaska, Big Flix, Meragana.com and Star Player. The tablets are PlayStation certified, which the company claims to be first ever in the industry. 

Masaru Tamagawa, Managing Director, Sony India said that they expect tablet market to gain momentum in near future. "Sony is not just a hardware company but brings entertainment experience," Tamagawa said. 

The company believes that 12 million tablets are expected to be sold in 2012, but however declines to elaborate on its own projected growth chart. Sony tablet is a new category, therefore can’t comment on projection, but the market has a potential, the company said.
