CHENNAI, September 2: Sony International Limited has tied-up with
Chennai-based Apex Computers Pvt. Ltd. for distribution of the former’s
computer peripheral products in the country. This was announced by Sony
Singapore Computer Peripheral Sales Department Senior Manager Shigeru
Iwata , who was in India to participate in a country-wide seminar series.
Entitled "Latest trends in Back-up storage technologies", the
seminar highlighted Sony's range of storage products and technologies such
as the Advance Intelligent Tapes, Digital Data Storage and Digital Linear
Tape.
Explaining the competitive advantages of Sony's proprietary
technologies, William Lee, Regional Manager, Computer Peripheral Sales
& Marketing, spoke about the roadmap of the products expected from
Sony and the doubling capacities and speeds that Sony was working on. The
seminar also featured Sony's magneto optical drive and disk technologies
in detail. He also traced the transition from DDS-3 to AIT-1, and from
DDS-4 to AIT-2.
Apex MD P.S. Thiagarajan, explained that Apex will extend its product
distribution and service capabilities for supporting Sony across the
country. Apex will also supply Sony's high-end scanners in India and it is
expected that many more product categories will also be introduced to the
Indian market through Apex.
Apex Computers, which is a distributor of computer peripherals, has its
own brand of computers manufactured at its plant in Pondicherry. The
company is also launching Apex branded Super 40X and 50 X CD-Rom drives,
Apex Superlink modems and other communication products such as NICs,
switches and hubs, in addition to Apex SuperNet networking products.
