Sony PlayStation Network still down

BANGALORE, INDIA: Sony PlayStation Network that was shut-down more than 24-hrs ago after it reported a data breach continued to be off line late on Monday.

The data breach has caused certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information compromised. According to a Reuters report credit card details from the 77 million user accounts of its video game online network may be been breached.

Sony PlayStation Network has so far only stated that its teams were working around the clock on the brech, and services will be restored as soon as possible.

The loss to Sony PlayStation Network users:

The company alert said that unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID.

The notice said that it is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. "If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained, " the alert cautioned.

What is Sony Network doing?

The company has temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services

Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened;

Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system

Sony had discovered the data breach between April 17 and April 19, 2011.

The online network was launched in the autumn of 2006 and offers games, music and movies to people with PlayStation consoles. It had 77 million registered users as of March 20, a Sony spokesman said, almost 90 percent of them in Europe or the United States
