Sony makes big plans for India

NEW DELHI: Sony Corporation India is showcasing a comprehensive range of Sony products designed to complement each other to form a futuristic lifestyle at its Digital Vision 2004. Sony General manager AV IT division, Mohit Parasher talks about the plans of Sony and the company's channel strategy.

What message are you conveying through the digital vision of Sony?



We want to explain the consumers that digital technology can change people's lives. It makes lives simpler and also increase the fun quotient in people's lives.

Why is Sony focusing so much in India? What are the new products that you are going to introduce in the Indian market?


India is a very strategic market for Asia-Pacific region. India's market has got a huge potential. The consumer's expectations are increasing and we are meeting them, as there is huge demand for our products in India.

We have a new range of products in every segment of Sony. We have introduced Wega engine technology, new products in car technology and new products in digital cameras. We have recently launched TFT monitor range and AIWA products. We introduce them simultaneously as they are launched in International market.

How are you going to market your products?



We don't market our products directly. We have many kinds of channel partners like Sony world outlets, Sony exclusive outlets, Multi-brand outlets, IT channels, photography shops and retail outlets. We have 2,400 retail outlets in India.

What are your plans for India?


Our sales growth is 43 percent in India till September 2004. We can't disclose the figure yet but we plan to make huge investments in terms of manpower, advertising and promotions.

We plan to bring out the latest technology, create excellent consumer touch points example Digital vision, Sony world stores, service centers etc. The most important thing is to do all this at a very competitive rate for our customers.
