Sony has announced its new SF-G series SD card that will apparently provide world’s fastest read/write speeds.

Designed especially for photographers, DSLR camera users and videographers, SF-G series offers to write speeds of up to 299 megabytes per second (MB/s) and read speed of up to 300MB/s that will enable transfer of large volumes and file sizes of data to or from the computer very quickly.

Also, according to Sony, such a fast write speed maximises the performance of the digital imaging device, which in turn offers longer shooting of high-resolution images. It also offers a shorter buffer clearing time.

“As the continuous shooting of higher-resolution images and adoption of 4K video with DSLR and mirrorless cameras increases, the inherent need for larger, faster and more dependable cards becomes apparent. Sony has met these growing demands with the debut of the SF-G Series, which offers industry-leading performance,” said Viviano Cantu, VP of Product Marketing, Sony Americas Media and Energy Group.

While the cards are still based on the UHS-II interface, Sony is touting its unique firmware for the added performance boost, stating that its algorithm prevents the "decrease of data-writing speeds."

There’s more. The SF-G series is resistant to water and features anti-static capabilities to keep the data safe. You would be able to recover photos and videos in case they are accidentally deleted.

The SD cards will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB sizes. Sony has decided to release the SD cards in the Spring of this year.
