Sony India unveils the new VAIO series

NEW DELHI: Sony India today unveiled its new range of the next generation VAIO notebooks which claims to hold the distinction of being the world's slimmest, equipped with the thinnest LCD and designed with built in camera.

Speaking at the launching ceremony Deputy Senior General Manager, VAIO Business Division Sony Corporation, Tokyo, Kunimasa Suzuki, said, “VAIO has offered innovative products of unique design with the latest AV-IT capability and technology focusing on every single detail from design to technology. It has redefined real mobility through seamlessly integrating pioneering technologies with extensive capabilities into one ultra portable notebook series,” Suzuki said.

The new technology VAIO or the Video and Audio Integrated Operation, would provide the user with an opportunity to watch movies, store music, pictures and share them with friends.

He said that VAIO is the world's slimmest notebook which has the longest battery backup. Sony claims that it is the first notebook to have instant AV playback mode.

General Manager sales and marketing, Sony India Mohit Parasher said that in the last 18 months the sales results are encouraging. The company has sold 105,000 digital video cameras, 45,000 digital still cameras, 65,000 digital personal audios and 140,000 memory sticks. “ We have sold around 4000 notebooks last year and are expecting more sales this year. The demands for our products are increasing and are expecting higher sales in the coming years,” Parasher added.

Sony is planning to open up 100 outlets in 35 towns around the country by March 2006 to target more customers. The company's sales and distribution network comprises of over 4500 dealers and distributors, 170 Sony World and Sony exclusive outlets and 17 direct branch locations catering to markets across the country.

The new range of notebooks unveiled today includes five models range from Rs. 69,990 to Rs.1, 22,900.
