Sony India, Milestone Interactive team up to launch PlayStation

NEW DELHI: Sony India and Milestone Interactive came together to announce the India launch of PlayStation, a video game console. The hardware for PlayStation will be marketed by Sony India and the software titles by Milestone Interactive.

Psone will be the first console to be launched in India through this partnership. PlayStation has an installed base of over 88 million worldwide. Complementing the console, an impressive line-up of 26 game titles is scheduled to hit retail stores through Milestone Interactive's extensive distribution network across the country. The titles that will be available include some of PlayStations' biggest international blockbusters across all genres such as Gran Turismo 2, Tekken 3, Formula 1 2001, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, This is Football 2 and Crash Bandicot 3: Warped.

The Psone will be available at an introductory price of Rs 7,990. The basic package will include the console, a controller and connector cables, bundled with one software title. The price of the software titles will be in the range of Rs 499 to 1299 per title. The sales channels of Sony India and Milestone Interactive will complement each other, thus leveraging each other's strengths to make the hardware and the software available across the widest retail network.

According to Sony India Pvt. Ltd., managing director Teruo Ishii, "Video gaming is still in its infancy in India and it is expected to grow exponentially. A recent AC Nielsen study states that this market will grow to Rs 500 crore in the next 3 years. Considering the that Sony's PlayStation is the global leader in gaming consoles, it is only natural that we are keen to corner a leading share in this promising market."
