TOKYO: Sony Corp said on Wednesday talks had been terminated with Fujitsu
Ltd. on possible cooperation in Internet services, which had been expected to
include the purchase of Fujitsu's Internet service provider (ISP).
The announcement comes five months after a media report that Sony was poised
to buy Nifty, Japan's largest fixed-line ISP and a wholly owned Fujitsu
subsidiary.
Executives at Sony, the world's largest consumer electronics maker, have said
they want to build the company's So-net ISP into Japan's largest, but have
complained that media reports hobbled negotiations on cooperation with Fujitsu,
Japan's largest computer company.
