Sona Chawla to head Dell online sales

BANGALORE: Computer-maker Dell, which has been facing dulling sales and a string of less-than-expected earnings recently, has pulled in a person of Indian origin, Sona Chawla to infuse some new blood into its online sales and support activities.

The company, which has assumed significant market traction over the years with its direct sales model, rakes in $16 billion worth revenue (out of the overall $56 billion revenues) every year through its website.

Chawla, has been appointed vice president and will head global online business. In her previous assignment, Chawla served as executive vice-president of online sales and marketing at one of United States’ leading financial firms, Wells Fargo. In fact, when she was at the helm, Wells Fargo was named the best corporate Internet bank in the US by the Global Finance Magazine in 2005.

Chawla will report to Dell senior vice president John Hamlin.
