MUMBAI, INDIA: The Indian Railways which has been sprucing up its IT investments, has received a further thrust.
It has roped in none other than former NASSCOM chief Som Mittal to head its IT vision council.
According to a statement, "In order to set up a technology portal to provide innovative solutions for rail specific issues, Railways has decided to constitute an advisory council under the chairmanship of former NASSCOM president Som Mittal. The council will prepare Information Technology (IT) vision for the Railways."
Besides ICT, the vision also covers telecom and geospatial aspects. The current ICT implementation will be reviewed and integrated into the new vision.
The council also comprises other prominent members such as Narendra Karmakar, ex-professor and expert in Super Computing, M P Jaiswal, Dean and Professor, Information Management, MDI, Gurgaon, Rajesh Mathur, Vice-President, Association of Geospatial Industries, P G Diwakar, DDG, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).
