Called TPI NEXT, the new methodology builds on the strengths of the original but has been significantly updated to reflect the software development and testing needs of modern businesses.

The new methodology will be published as a book entitled TPI NEXT, Business Driven Process Improvement, written by Sogeti test experts and validated by extensive customer field tests.

According to the release, published in 1998, the original TPI has become the leading test process improvement model worldwide, with nearly 17,000 copies sold. Over the past decade, however, software testing has evolved in response to the emergence of trends such as outsourcing, complex IT chains, agile-based development methods and heightened user expectations of fault-free applications.

Richard Terry, deputy CEO for Sogeti UK said: “Testing should be a structured and controllable process; but that is not always the case. TPI NEXT incorporates significant changes that reflect changing business dynamics, such as the need to deploy new applications very quickly and the increasing trend towards outsourcing. The new text is is an indispensable step-by-step guide for the hands-on test professional, providing practical descriptions and hints and tips for executing a test assessment and implementing improvements based on business drivers.”

“Business-Driven TPI is our compass towards improvement. It’s a small step for testers but a giant leap in improving our test process,” concluded Terry.
