Software on defence land records launched

NEW DELHI: Taking e-Governance a step further, the Directorate General of Defence Estates under the Ministry of Defence has started computerizing land records comprising vast tracts of land in the country measuring about seventeen lakh acres.

The software “Raksha Bhoomi” was launched by Minister of State for Defence, M.M. Pallam Raju.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister complimented the efforts of the staff of NIC and DG, Defence Estates for their consistent efforts in digitizing of Defence land records, which is a highly specialized and complex task, keeping in view the vast land holdings that the Defence Organisations hold throughout the country.

The minister directed the Defence Estate officials to make optimum use of the Raksha Bhoomi Software in order to protect the precious Defence land and prevent encroachments. There are instances of encroachment on Defence lands which have come up to the notice of the Defence Ministry and added that the software will facilitate in solving these cases.

The minister informed that the entire digitization of the records of land will be done in two phases at a cost of Rs.2.52 crores. The first phase has been completed with the launching of today’s software.

Out of the total land holdings of 17 lakh acres owned by the Defence sector, the record of cantonment land admeasuring two lakh acres and military land of about 15 lakh acres will henceforth be readily available in the Defence Estates offices, thanks to the efforts of the experts in the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Chennai.
