EVault features a simple, Windows-based or web-based graphical user interface to initiate all backups and restores, and to configure all backup and automation options. Administrators can set backups to follow an hourly, daily, weekly, or custom schedule, and to target full systems, specific directories, or even individual files. Moreover, individual software agents are available that enable EVault to target more specific data in Exchange, SQLServer, Sharepoint, MSClusters, and Oracle servers.

We want our customers to have the highest level of confidence that their systems and data are safe. And youre the most confident when you have the most control, said Andrew Maten, SoftLayer EVault Project Lead. EVault lets our customers fine-tune their own backups, and in return fine-tune their level of assurance.

SoftLayer has integrated EVault into its industry-leading automated services. All EVault activities can be user-initiated on-demand through SoftLayers proprietary web portal, where customers can also access a snapshot view of their backups. Additionally all EVault backups will be stored to SoftLayers innovative StorageLayer data protection environment.

SoftLayers EVault pricing is variable, based on the volume of compressed data a customer uploads to the StorageLayer (StorageLayers compression ratio ranges from 5:1 to 10:1, depending on data type). Moreover, with its StorageLayer integration, EVault backups and restores are trafficked within SoftLayers private network and do not count against a customers bandwidth utilization.
