According to the company, the new high-speed, high-performance 45nm generic process (GP) technology can be used in several fields, including system-on-chip, graphics and network processors, telecommunications and wireless consumer products.

The SMIC had last June said it was adopting a new SPICE model software for the design and verification of its 45nm IP blocks, I/O circuitry, and standard cell characterization flows.

The company's efforts now focus on 45nm, post the 65nm low-power technology closing the development cycle, completed IP portfolio, passed multiple customer product qualification and promoted production.

SMIC, in the meantime, has upped its revenue outlook for the second quarter on a sequential basis. This comes following hopes of a stronger-than-expected growth in customer orders. The China market has been showing added demand, it has been revealed.

The company has forecast revenue increase of close to 78 per cent for the second quarter on a sequential basis, up from the prior guidance of an increase of 62 per cent. The Shanghai company had in the year-ago quarter, posted decline in revenues to US$342.92 million from US$374.83 million.
