Built for robust workgroup and backbone switching today, the SMC8648T also has the flexibility to allow for upgrades to even more features that will be released in the future, including SNMPv3, Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1s) that allows single spanning tree within VLANs, and Access Control List (ACL).

"This powerful, high-density switch was designed to excel in the most demanding networks," said SMC country manager (India) Sanjay Koul. "As the majority of desktop computers and servers are integrated with Gigabit over copper interfaces, the TigerSwitch is designed to be part of a server farm's infrastructure. Its security, performance and management features make it ideal for Gigabit to the desktop applications, too," he added.
