NEW DELHI: Hewlett Packard India Pvt. Ltd today said that it is the leader in
the commercial desktop segment, achieving its highest ever market share of 18.8
per cent (by volume).
HP also said in a statement that it has retained its No. 1 position in the
portables segment with a share of 36.5 per cent market share, according to
International Data Corporation's (IDC) results for Q1 2006.
The small and medium business segment and the government segment contributed a
significant portion of sales for the overall growth of the category for HP.
In Q1 2006, HP achieved a sequential growth of 59.4 per cent for commercial
desktops; 32.6 per cent for consumer desktops and 5.5 per cent for portables.

India, said: “With an existing powerful portfolio of PCs and continuous value
addition through innovation, we are offering superior product proposition to our
customers. This is backed up by a wide service network across the country and
post-sales service, which has contributed to the consistent growth and
reinforcing HP's leadership in the Indian PCs space”.
Commercial desktop shipments in Q1 2006 recorded a 14 per cent sequential growth
(Q1 2006 over Q4 2005) and a 16 per cent year-on-year growth (Q1 2006 over Q1
2005), the highest sequential growth witnessed in the Indian commercial desktop
PC market in the preceding eight quarters.
The notebook PC segment as a whole witnessed a growth of 177 per cent
year-on-year (1Q 2006 over 1Q 2005) in terms of unit shipments.
