BANGALORE, INDIA: "To conquer the world...! conquer the Indian market first," said Michel Guez, managing director, Smartesting Software Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd after announcing the opening of Smartesting Software Solutions India Private Limited, its first subsidiary, settled in Bangalore.

Buoyed by the Indian testing market that is seeing stellar growth (estimated by Gartner at 700 million dollars this year), Smartesting India hopes to bring to fruition the commercial strategy it initiated in 2006 and to make new strategic partnerships, with the ambition of generating a turnover of 2 million Euros here, by 2010.

Incorporated in 2003, Smartesting helps companies with automatic test generation technology that took more than 100 person-years to develop.

With these achievements in hand, and in the current context of off-shoring development activities by European and American companies to India, Smartesting had chosen to evaluate the potential of its solution on this huge market as early as 2006.

After several months of field work to learn the realities of the Indian market, Smartesting underlined its ambition for growth by opening Smartesting Software Solutions Private Limited in Bangalore, the international centre for new technologies. This new company will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Smartesting and will be managed by Michel Guez, who has monitored the development of the project in India right from the start.

“Our presence in India is strategic as the Indian market has become a world-wide phenomenon in the testing domain and several of our clients and prospective clients already entrust test factories in India for their projects," said Laurent Py, CEO and co-founder of Smartesting.

He added: "Today, we are further reinforcing our position as the keystone of test automation with Smartesting India. This is an atypical move in the current scenario as we develop our products in Besançon, a small town in the East of France, and sell them in India, unlike other major companies that have off-shored their development activities to India.”

A targeted turnover of 2 million Euros by 2010

Besides the intensification of the commercial efforts towards major systems integrators in India to promote the test automation solutions developed by Smartesting, the opening of an Indian subsidiary will facilitate the implementation of strategic partnerships with local players. Smartesting hopes to concentrate these efforts in the field of development of generic solutions for ERP certification.

Smartesting has an ambitious target of a 2 million euro turnover in India by 2010; in other words close to 25 percent of its overall turnover worldwide.

“The inauguration of Smartesting India is a crucial step in the development of our activities in India. The fact that we have an official presence will leverage our commercial strategy and will allow us, for example, to broaden our targets to major Indian banks and highly specialised systems integrators. But we also hope to profit from this new structure to develop strategic partnerships around out Smartesting tool with Indian systems integrators and developers” concludes Guez.

Testing: a market of more than 700 million dollars this year

Smartesting’s strategy is firmly placed within the off-shoring boom – outsourcing of IT development, presence of major global players and major Indian IT services companies in India – and relies on the implementation of "software test centres" that validate the quality of software development.

Large European companies and systems integrators such as Accenture, Atos Origin and Cap Gemini have based their “test automation” services in India. Indian IT giants like Wipro and Infosys have also made software qualification the spearhead of their international growth strategy and have teams of more than 4000 engineers specialized in this field.

Smartesting announced the signature of an agreement with Qualitree, a specialised distributor of qualification software based in Bangalore, in June 2007.
