SMART intros interactive white boards for schools

BANGALORE, INDIA: SMART Technologies, a Canada-based education solutions provider, on Friday announced the launch of interactive white boards in India - SMART Board 400 series, 600 series and 800 series. The company says that the white boards will help solve problems in the education sector.

Unveiling the white board, Sanjiv Pande, MD - India and South Asia, SMART Technologies, said, “Traditionally, India has a strong emphasis on education. The country has made extraordinary advances in education and the education sector is poised for a substantial growth and progress. Education today has evolved out of the realm of conventional methods of teaching, to a more intelligent, digitized and smarter way of teaching and learning.”

He added, “Educational institutes globally have adopted interactive IT solutions and now India is recognizing the growing demand for wholesome and comprehensive value-add educational solutions as well. SMART has gained a significant insight into the Indian education system and continues to provide solutions for the market.”

Demonstrating the use of the board, Anju Visen-Singh, director, Education Product Marketing, SMART Technologies, said that interactive white boards will help students make achievements in science and maths.

“The white board makes it possible for students and teachers to interact through engagements. An important feature of the product is that two users can simultaneously write in their own separate workspaces. The board offers a cost-effective education experience to students as well as teachers,” Singh added.

The company said that many educational institutions in India are already using the interactive white board.

“We have customers from different sectors, ranging from the education sector to IT sector. International School of Bangalore and National School are some of our customers in the education sector. Cisco, GE, TCS, Infosys and Wipro are some of our customers from the IT sector,” added Sanjiv Pande.

The products are available in a price range of $500 to $1000, depending on configuration. In response to a query on the company's business expectations from India, Pande said that the company foresees a surge in demand for its products and will mainly focus on private schools.
