Sling Media unveils new internet TV device

Sling MediaMUMBAI, INDIA: Sling Media Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation, on Thursday launched Slingbox, a device that allows users to watch television content anywhere in the world over the broadband Internet.

Raghu Tarra, Sling Media's managing director, said, “The Slingbox is a pioneer product in placeshifting technology and marks a milestone for television viewing in India. With Slingbox, consumers can now catch their favorite cricket match, show or movie from anywhere in the world. With a huge mobile and TV subscriber base, we see India as an attractive market for us.”

In first phase of launch, the company has tied-up with Tata Croma, Reliance Digital and online store Flipkart.com to market their products. According to Tarra, the target consumers is largely the urban middle-class people based in metros, including frequent travelers and business people working abroad.

Initially, the products will be available in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, NCR and later will be expanded to other cities such as Ahmedabad, Pune and Chennai.

The company will provide free phone support for the first 90 days from the day of product sold and offers 12 months warranty. Sling Media has introduced three models - Slingbox 120, Slingbox PRO-HD and SlingLink1 Port with prices Rs.7999, Rs.14999 and Rs.4999 respectively. They will be available by this month end.
