Skyworks to set up Indian base, proposes design center

NEW DELHI: Skyworks Solutions is all set to operate directly from India. The exact legal nature of the company is likely to be announced by the year-end. As of now, Skyworks operates in India through its partner, VB Soft. The proposed design software center will be located in New Delhi, it is being positioned as a co-development center, and would complement the company’s existing far-east operations in China, Korea, Singapore and Japan.

The R&D spend behind the outfit is around $ 5 million over the next five years, inclusive of license fees, etc. The exact location of the center is yet to be finalized, but is tentatively to be in Noida. Some 50 engineers are to be based over a 10,000 square foot spread. Speaking with CNS, Moiz ME Beguwala, special advisor, Skyworks informed that the new design center would be used to design mobile communications applications for the regional Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs) and contract manufacturers, who are developing newer handset models.
