Elaborating further on his plans for the association, Mehta, President, SITA said, “Our association has been active for the last 13 years, yet we have only gained recognition at a local level. Our main aim for this year would be to be recognized by the central government as a formidable IT body in the area. Surat has already been allocated an IT Park. We want the government to expand this IT park in association with SITA. We want to be part of this project”

Apart from this, Mehta said that he and his team were looking to expand their databases, provide an identity card for each member and organize IT expos. “We were the first body to organize a mobility expo, an exclusive laptop show, every year, for the last six years in the region. We plan to keep up with the tradition and organize it again. We are in talks with some international importers to participate in the show,” he added.

One of the major aims of the association is to induct distributors to the association. Mehta explained, “If distributors become members of the association, we can resolve payment issues. SITA can then become an arbitrator and issues can be solved amicably.”

Kamal Agarwal , Secretary , SITA explained that the association is keen to expand its humanitarian footprint and bring IT literacy in rural areas. “IT has become extremely important part of everyone's life today. As an association, we aim to bring this learning and awareness in areas that are secluded from the activities in the metro cities.” SITA is already working with the government to build a school in the tribal belt of the region, a project in which several companies are involved.

Post the AGM, SITA took around 80 partners for a two night/three day trip to Khanvel, 150 km from Surat. The two night/three day trip was sponsored by companies like Samsung, AMD, Asus, BenQ, QuickHeal, Enjay Thin-Client, K-7 Computing and Smart Infrocomm. The event took place on August 7 and 9.
