BANGALORE: Siemens Information Systems Limited (SISL) has announced a plan to consolidate its Software Engineering Centre (SEC) into a separate business unit. According to a release, SEC has been restructured, making it the second largest supplier for software development service for Siemens AG worldwide.

The SEC has experience in providing core software engineering services in diverse domains like Transportation Control, Medical Diagnostics, Automotive Systems and Business Applications to its customers at competitive rates. Talking about the new Strategic Business Unit, formed as a result of restructuring of all software engineering services into a single unit, SISL managing director A. R. Laud said, "The restructuring of SEC will see SISL position itself as an important partner for multi-factory approach of Siemens divisions worldwide with a strong focus on the US market."

The SEC was formed in 1996 as an outsourcing facility and currently it provides value added software-engineering services in diverse domains, including Medical Engineering, Automotive, Transportation, among many others. The new model, which came into effect from October 1, 1999 will see the scope of the SEC broadened to include additional domains like KWU (Power Sector) and the I&C (Information and Communication) family.
