HYDERABAD: Atlanta headquartered Surgical Information Systems (SIS), a technology solutions provider for hospitals is expanding its India development center in Hyderabad. The total investment of SIS in the India center, which is its wholly owned subsidiary, will go up to $ six million by the end of 2004, informed VP, product development at SIS Drew Cobb. "And the biggest pie of the investment goes in training associates in Atlanta," he added. In 2003, the company had sent 25 associates from India center to Atlanta for training.

According to Cobb, the company will also increase its manpower from the current 110 to over 200 by December 2004 and is considering expanding to the third phase of Vanenburg IT Park. This will be the second facility expansion for the company, which started outsourcing product development and quality assurance to India in February 2001.

The privately funded company has 200 hospitals as its customers in the US and is expecting to add another 65-70 hospitals to its customer base. "Year 2003 has seen a boom in healthcare sector," said Cobb. However, the company is currently focussing on the US market. "Though there are opportunities in England and Canada but at this point of time we do not want to dilute our focus by spreading ourselves too thin," explained Cobb.

SIS is all set to launch the latest version of its OR software 4.5.0 in which it has added multiple functionalities to the product.
