SiRF Technology sets up SDC in India

MUMBAI: SiRF Technology Holdings, Inc, provider of GPS-enabled silicon and software location platforms, has announced the establishment of SiRF Technology (India) Pvt Ltd, a 100 percent subsidiary of SiRF Technology Holdings, Inc. The company has also launched its Indian development center in Noida.





According to the press release, SiRF India will focus on the development of new products and technologies that bring GPS-enabled, instant location information to a wide range of applications such as car navigation systems, location aware portable computers and cellular phones, fleet management and asset tracking systems, emergency response systems and recreational hand-held devices. The key areas of R&D will include, newer generation of GPS chipsets and software that combine GPS with complementary technologies.





SiRF India also plans to provide marketing and customer support for its products in India and Asia. The India center plans to work on market specific software to optimize SiRF's location platform to address the needs of the Indian market as well as larger market segments in developing countries, such as wireless and automotive. In addition, the center will develop technical collateral and reference designs to accelerate time to market for customers.





SiRF Technology also plans to work proactively with the leading educational and research institutions in India to fund advanced research in emerging technologies and applications that can have major impact on the markets for location technology such as the emerging Galileo system.



"As a market leader, we plan to scale our operations worldwide to meet the needs of our high growth markets," said SiRF Technology India MD, Sena Reddy. He added, "We intend to take full advantage of the technical expertise and resources available in India to develop state of the art technologies in both semiconductors and software to meet customer needs."
